Rainy Day in the City

1
I loved the way my friend's coat stood out against the grey city.

This was at Rockefeller Center. I lined up the flags in the shot so that they echoed the shape of the building.
4
I took this picture, and a few others, while just walking down the street. Stopping to get a good shot is impossible in New York. I actually almost got lost a few times when I did!

5
Guess what? I finally figured out all of the settings on my camera! So I got to try making the background really blurry... and then about fifteen seconds later my camera died. I forgot my charger at home, too.

These are the last pictures from the rest of the trip that I took using my camera. For all of the others I borrowed my friends phone and occasionally her camera.

Cathedral

While we were in NYC, we stopped at St. Patrick's Cathedral to get out of the rain. I took it as an opportunity to take some pictures.

I really struggled with this shot. I took a few similar ones, and I really wanted to get the effect of the pattern of the pews with the people sitting in them. It was cool because it was mostly scattered individuals. I didn't want to be too obtrusive or bother anyone, so that made it especially difficult to get what I was looking for. I ended up not being able to achieve the shot at all, but I thought I should include it because it was the best I came up with, despite the fact that there aren't any people in it. Another thing that I really struggled with was the fact that the lighting in the church was really yellow, and that using a flash wasn't permitted.

These photos are all ones that I took at the train station. I'm not crazy about any of them, but I think that they have benefits and drawbacks to discuss. Which one is your favorite, least favorite, and why?

Empty Fountain

This is a photo of an empty fountain from Washington Square Garden in Greenwich Village. I upped the contrast and exposure a tiny bit to add to the effect the sunlight created. I tried positioning the shot so that the people in the middle were  off to one side in order to avoid symmetry, but I actually like it in the middle. I feel that it's the best photo I took over February break. What are your thoughts?
